The Ginastera Project
Alberto Evaristo Ginastera (April 11, 1916, Buenos Aires – June 25, 1983, Geneva) is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most prolific composers of the Twentieth Century.
After a visit to the United States in 1945–47, where he studied with Aaron Copland at Tanglewood, he returned to Buenos Aires. Among his notable students were Ástor Piazzolla. In 1968 Ginastera moved back to the United States, and in 1970 to Europe. He died in Geneva, Switzerland, at the age of 67 and is buried in the Cimetière des Rois. The composer grouped his music into three periods: "Objective Nationalism" (1934–1948), "Subjective Nationalism" (1948–1958), and "Neo-Expressionism" (1958–1983). Among the distinguishing features of his music, these periods vary in their use of traditional Argentine musical elements. |

The Ginastera Project enjoys the endorsement of the composer’s daughter, Georgina Ginastera and is a collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Ginastera Project represents the first ever cycle of the complete symphonic, balletic and operatic works of this singularly important musical figure.
“It can not be that Alberto Ginastera’s genius be overshadowed by the dominance of other Twentieth Century greats. It is time that listeners be afforded a recording cycle which contextualizes the full depth and scope of his genius.”
David Handel, Artistic Director
